Back to our regularly scheduled program:
today the question of what i wish to study for the next four years is weighing heavily. this decision affects not only the availability of programs but will also determine my future science direction. the programs are narrowed down to virology (viruses), biochemistry/molecular biology, and possibly pharmacology/toxicology (drug design and toxins). i talked to lisa and had it down to virology (probably) and then jen brought up an interesting pharm/tox question, reopening the question.
compounding factors include: my extreme burnout from working in a malaria lab for the past 3 years and the lovely situations arising from that, my weekly debate about chucking science all together and getting a ph.d in languages or english lit, my monthly decisions to quit everything and work for a 7-11 and random questions about maybe considering med school again.
eventually i have to choose. limbo can only last so long. applications for fall 2007 are due at the end of 2006. i need to figure this out, visit schools, pick a lab and apply.
in the meantime, all i want to do is read a stack of not-science books, go to the beach, ride bikes and reteach myself some chemistry.

Limbo can be a nice place to be sometimes but you can't stay there forever. I say go into Pharm stuff cause we're only ygoing to need more drugs to get through life and the drug industry is pretty dang strong from what I can tell, just make sure you get yoru drug labeled correctly so you don't bring a class action lawsuit against yourself. But that's not your concern.
